BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:15 P.M.) – The Russian and Syrian air forces carried out a large number of airstrikes over the eastern countryside of Aleppo today, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIS) positions across the Deir Hafer and Maskanah plains.

Russian and Syrian air battalions reportedly took off from the Hmaymim Airbase and Hama Military Airport on Friday morning, flying northeast towards the Aleppo-Raqqa provincial border on several occasions.

According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian and Russian air forces carried out more than 45 airstrikes over the Islamic State’s positions, killing and wounding a large number of terrorist combatants participating in the battle against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The Syrian Arab Army units in east Aleppo currently have their hands full, as they attempt to take control of the Jirah Military Airport for the first time since late 2012.
