BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – Russia’s Tu-95 strategic bombers carried out a series of powerful airstrikes over the western countryside of Palmyra this morning, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIS) defenses at several sites near the ancient city.

These Russian airstrikes would pay dividends for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) units near Palmyra today, paving the way for their forces to advance to the Al-Qadri farms at the outskirts of the city.

Led by the 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army reportedly advanced from the recently liberated Tarfah Al-Sharqiyah area to the Al-Qadri Farms this morning, forcing most of the Islamic State terrorists to flee to Palmyra’s western  gates.

While liberating the city is important to the Syrian Arab Army, their first priority is to restore all of the gas fields that ISIS seized in early December of last year.
