BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 P.M.) – Russia’s Ministry of Defence showed journalists from around the world on Thursday the improvised drones used by Syrian militant forces in a failed attack on the Hmeymim Airbase.

“All these devices attempted to attack the airbase and they were launched from the northwest, from the Idlib area,” Chief Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation Igor Konashenkov said.

According to officials, there were five attacks on the base in recent days, all of which were repelled by Russian anti-air defence systems.

“These flying machines can fly over 100 kilometers, some of them – even up to 200 [kilometers]. We can see that the control and navigation systems are getting more refined. Some machines can remain airborne for up to four hours. Their speed is around 50 km/h,” Konashenkov said.

The press visit to the base was part of a wider tour though Syria organised by the Russian military for international journalists.

Boeing prototype is jet-powered 😉
According to the shape of the cover of the propeller engine on Iranian one, it might be powered by the copy of a Cessna’s engine 😉

Most of the small UAVs do not have the technical sophistication, endurance and capability to travel 100s of KM or even up to 200 KM. At an average of 50 KM per hour they will need over 4 hours of flight time. The fight either has to have good Lithium Ion batteries to last so long. Further carrying additional payload apart from the camera payload will reduce its range. Only few countries & private or government organizations have mature proven UAVs with ISR Capabilities. Medium Altitude and High Altitude UAVs are not every ones cup of tea. One can take… Read more »

VERY interesting : Houthi UAV shot down by pro-Hadi forces : Oh oh!!!! Are IRGC or Hezbollah attacking the Hmeimim airbase?????? Well, since the real creator of ISIS is the Satanic Repulseblic of Iran, with snakes like Khamenei and a Qassem Soleimani already nicknamed “Keyser Soze” and sad being pure evil by general Petraeus who teamed with him during the cleansing of Fallujah and Ramadi, you can expect such very vicious act : now Iran is a de facto ally of Qatar and Turkey, two Muslim-Brotherhood-led states, while strangely supporting Hamas, which is also part of MB and openly backs… Read more »
