BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:20 P.M.) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a bomb exploded today during a Russian-Turkish patrol along the M-4 Highway (Aleppo-Latakia Highway in the Idlib Governorate.
According to Major-General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense:
“Today, during a joint patrol on the road between the towns of Ariha and Urum al-Juz, the militants attempted a terrorist attack with the aim of disrupting the monitoring of the situation along the M-4 Highway. As a result of an explosive device on the convoy road, an armored personnel carrier was slightly damaged and the joint patrol personnel were not injured. “.
According to him, all equipment and the Russian Army returned to the base.
This is the second attack on a Russian military patrol in the Idlib Governorate in the last ten days.
It is noteworthy not mention that an agreement was signed in Moscow on March 5th between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan; this deal paved the way for joint patrols along the M-4 Highway.
Most recently, the Syrian Arab Army had begun amassing its forces in southern Idlib for what is expected to be a new offensive against the jihadist forces in the governorate.
The aim of this operation is the capture of the Jabal A-Zawiya region, which has long been under the control of the militant forces.
