The Russian Air Force is working overtime tonight in the northern Aleppo countryside, hitting several jihadist targets around Kafr Hamra, Haritan, and Qabr Al-Angleez.

A field correspondent in northern Aleppo told Al-Masdar News on Saturday night that the Russian Air Force has carried out several airstrikes along the main road from Haritan to the Al-Mallaah Farms, killing a large number of jihadist combatants in the process.

Recently, the Russian Air Force has begun using parachute bombs to target jihadist tunnels in the northern Aleppo countryside; this has proven to be an inexpensive surrogate bunker busters.

The Russian Air Force has not let up on their aerial campaign tonight; they are still launching a barrage of airstrikes over northern Aleppo, while the jihadists attempt to regroup for a second push at the Al-Castillo Highway.

The use of parachute bombs is NOTHING new in Syria and as I’ve already pointed, there are several types, only one being a bunker/tunnel buster. Most of the time, parachute bombs are totally classic ones, mostly used when SyAAF L-39 Albatros go-in : they will fall vertically, so, with the limited targeting devices on these basicly made fo training aircraft, you can achieve better accuracy. Some russian chute bombs are not really bombs at all : these are multiple parachuted devices coming out of the container-bomb searching for a vehicle then throwing an explosive-shaped penetrator against them (RBK-500), some others… Read more »
