BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:35 A.M.) – The so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” was given a rude awakening on Wednesday morning, when several Russian jets hammered their positions in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

The Russian Air Force began their aerial assault on Wednesday morning by targeting the Islamic State’s defenses along the Thardeh Mountains, scoring direct hits at points 1 and 2.

Following the airstrikes at Jabal Thardeh, the Russian Air Force carried out a powerful assault at the Thayyem Oil Fields and Electical Station, destroying two technical trucks armed with anti-aircraft machine guns, while also killing and wounding more than 20 militants.

These Russian airstrikes specifically targeted the Islamic State’s launching points for their upcoming offensive in Deir Ezzor, which is ultimately geared to capture the Military Airport and 137th Artillery Brigade Base.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
