BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:10 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force has launched their first airstrikes over the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate this morning.
Led by their Sukhoi jets, the Russian Air Force reportedly pounded the jihadist stronghold of Kabani, which is located just west of the Idlib Governorate and Al-Ghaab Plain.
Previously, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had repeatedly stormed Kabani in an attempt to capture the mountaintop town from the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Turkestan Islamic Party.
However, their attacks on Kabani were all beaten back by the jihadist rebels, who inflicted heavy casualties within the ranks of the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Army.
Other than heavy shelling, the Syrian Army has not stormed Kabani since mid-June.
