BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:30 P.M.) – The Russian National Center for Defense Administration announced on Monday, that Russian Su-27 fighters have intercepted two American warplanes over the Black Sea waters.

“On June 29th, the Defense Forces of the Southern Military Region monitored and escorted a P-8A Poseidon aircraft and an RS-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft,” the center’s statement said.

The statement pointed out that the Russian Su-27 rushed to intercept the two planes, and that there was no violation of the Russian airspace.

The statement concluded: “The sorties of Russian aircraft have been conducted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters without violating the borders of other countries.”

Today’s interception by the Russian Air Force marks the second time in the last five days that they have rushed to escort U.S. aircraft near their airspace.
