BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:50 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force does not often carry out airstrikes in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus; however, when they receive direct coordinates of jihadist positions in the area, their jets take the opportunity to strike the militants.
On Tuesday night, the Russian Air Force received intelligence reports regarding Jaysh Al-Islam’s (Army of Islam) movements around the East Ghouta towns of Douma and Shifouniyah.
Using this information to pinpoint Jaysh Al-Islam’s positions, the Russian Air Force carried out two airstrikes in Douma and Shifouniyah, killing and wounding a large number of Islamist combatants after achieving direct hits on their targets.
The Russian Air Force typically carries out these type of airstrikes because of their ability to zero-in on specific targets; they did the same thing in Khan Al-Sheih and Dirkhabiyeh before they were surrendered to the Syrian Arab Army.
