DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:30 PM) – The death of Russian Lieutenant-General Valery Asapov is the fault of the hypocritical attitude displayed by the United States in the campaign against ISIS in Syria, according to Moscow. This was said in an official statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Monday.

“The death of the Russian commander is the price paid with blood for the hypocrisy of American policy in Syria,” Ryabkov said.

General Asapov was one of the top commanders of the Russian armed forces that are active in support of the Syrian government in the ongoing conflict against ISIS and Al-Qaeda terrorists. He was killed by a terrorist mortar strike on Sunday, near the city of Deir Ezzor, that has recently been liberated by Syrian and Russian forces.

Deputy Minister Ryabkov stated that while Washington keeps up the appearance that it is an active partner in the war against ISIS, the facts on the ground show a different reality. In his statement, Ryabkov called on the US to halt any actions that are at odds with the strategic objective of defeating ISIS in Syria.

Ryabkov’s statement reflects Russia’s disappointment with recent findings by the Russian airforce. Aerial pictures taken in Deir Ezzor Governorate on Sunday show US special forces deployed deep inside ISIS-held territory.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Americans do not face any “resistance from the ISIS militants” and don’t even have screening patrols near their bases, indicating that they “feel absolutely safe” despite being so close to ISIS encampments. The findings have enraged many in Russia and led to questions about the dedication of Washington to the eradication of the ISIS terrorist organisation.

Faced with a clear act of American hostility against him, instead of whining without doing anything concrete about as always,
what will Russia be waiting to let the Turks atack and punish all the Kurdish territories in their entirety?
If the Kurds are using ISIS, enemies of the Syrian government and allies, why not use the quintessential enemy of the Kurds against them.
During these last developments, I have come to hate the treacherous and stupid Kurds something more than ISIS and all the others terrorist cockroaches to the services of the United States, I fear.

Non-sense. where did you get all that fantasy? Anti-american, yes, you are. Pro-russian, yes, you are. Pro-Assad, yes, you are. Of course, as always, each one puts their distorted image of the reality, according to his/her wishes, ideology, creed, origin, etc. But lies will remain lies, no matter how hard a liar tries to distort the reality. Go to the war camp, and see by yourself what is really going on. Many third parties interests are in this war, and each one is counting their own stories. With your whitening hair, you should show more restrain and more judgment, and… Read more »

There should have been no questioning the dedication of the US against ISIS, at least by now. It should be absolutely plain for all to see that the US does all it can to preserve ISIS. No longer should the Russians advise the US as to their plans on who and where they plan to attack. Does ISIS/US/Kurds tell SAA and Russia when they are going to attack? Just do it, should some US/NATO SOF be killed, so be it. Those soldiers know where they are and who they are fighting with, so it should be no surprise to them… Read more »

These ISIS commanders that allow US Special Forces unimpeded free movement through their areas are exactly the kind of agents infiltrated into ISIS that were airlifted to safety by US helicopters earlier. In turn the US provides the ISIS stooges with accurate coordinates that made possible the precise targeting that killed General Assapov and two Colonels. RiP heroes.

Russia should stop sharing its troops’ positions in Syria with the US because the information will be handed over to the ISIS. The US and Israel are carrying out two-faced policy in Syria. Pls remeber they are your enemies in nature!
