Russian Major General Petr Milyukhin, a commander of Russian troops in Syria, was severely wounded by an ISIS mines in the city when it exploded near him.
He was transported immediately to Russia to receive medical treatment.
Demining teams are working round the clock to dismantle the plethora of IEDs and bombs planted by ISIS in the city before their hasty retreat from the advancing Syrian Army that had Russian support.
Meanwhile, heavy clashes are occuring now between ISIS and the Syrian Army over control of Palmyra’s airbase. It is expected that the Syrian Army will liberate the airbase.
