BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 A.M.) – The Russian military’s Hmeymim Airbase came under heavy attack last night, when jihadist rebels attempted to launch a powerful drone attack on this installation in Latakia’s southwestern countryside.

However, the jihadist attack would be short-lived, as the Russian air defense forces managed to down all of the armed drones that approached the Hmeymim Airbase last night.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, their air defense forces downed at least five armed drones that approached the northeastern perimeter of the Hmeymim Airbase and its surroundings.

This attempted attack on the Hmeymim Airbase by the jihadist rebels marks the third time in the last 72 hours that they have tried to strike the installation.

The jihadist drones often take off from the Jisr Al-Shughour District in the Idlib Governorate, which is one of the reasons why the Russian and Syrian air forces continue to strike this part of the province.

Furthermore, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham have become more aggressive as of late due to the Syrian Arab Army’s planned offensive in this region.

In the coming days, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) will strike the northern countryside of Hama, where they will attempt to seal off the province once and for all.
