BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:20 P.M.) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov issued a stern warning to the U.S. about pressuring Turkey to abandon the acquisition of the S-400 missile system.
In a speech at the Youth Forum, Lavrov said the U.S. must abandon their “ultimatums and threats” towards Turkey, the Turkish state-owned Anadolu Agency reported.
According to Lavrov, nations “will not agree to subjecting their right to trade with whom they want and what they want to ultimatums and threats, as is now the case with contracts for the supply of Russian weapons to a number of states, for example, Turkey, Indonesia and India, when Washington openly requires refusal of these contracts.”
Lavrov encouraged the U.S. to avoid their hostile threats, as they only cause long-term conflicts.
Turkey is preparing to acquire the S-400 missile system, despite the threat of sanctions by the Trump administration.
