BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:40 P.M.) – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticised the Trump administration’s decision to provide further funding to the White Helmets organisation, speaking in Samara on Wednesday.
“These are the people who have damaged not only their credibility […] but, basically, put in question the credibility of non-government organisations, of humanitarian non-governmental organisations which operate in the region,” she said. The spokesperson added that White Helmets is only “a tool in the information and propaganda war” saying that after the US decision to continue funding, Moscow expects more misinformation on alleged chemical attacks by the Syrian government against its own citizens.
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Russian): “Let’s see for what our US colleagues have allocated money despite what Syria, its people, citizens, children and women, really need in the current conditions.
Of course, it again made a decision to resume funding of the White Helmets. This notorious organisation which, using the Russian expression, though I would like to use another one, but I will have to use a proper one – as crooked as a dog’s hind leg.
These are the people [the White Helmets] who have damaged not only their credibility, this matter is closed, but, basically, put in question the credibility of all non-governmental organisations, of humanitarian non-governmental organisations which operate in the region.
The order for these staged videos and moreover for the staged actions has already been paid. At least, a multi-million tranche of money has already been announced. It is evident that the White Helmets is a specifically created tool in the information and propaganda war.
Only a few years ago there was a feeling that it [the White helmets]was just used, so now we understand and know it for sure that it [the White Helmets] has been initially created for provocative purposes.”

SOT, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Russian): “After a new round of the financial support which is a huge one if we take into account of what is going on in the region and of the huge financial inflow which the citizens need, following this new round we are expecting more disinformation regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government against citizens. It deals with ordered and paid operations and, of course, we are getting messages saying that such provocations are being prepared. If we get credible information, we will seek to inform in advance in order to avert such actions.”
