The Russian Embassy in Damascus sustained damage after coming under mortar shelling on February 2 and 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

There were no reported injuries during the attack.

“On February 2 and 3, the Russian diplomatic compound in Syria came under mortar shelling twice. Aimed fire was conducted from the Jobar neighborhood controlled by terrorists,” the ministry said. “One of the mines exploded in the territory of the embassy compound between the office and residential buildings. Another mine went off some 20 meters off the main entryway to the embassy. No one was hurt but the shelling caused material damage.”

“We resolutely condemn these terrorist attacks on the Russian diplomatic mission in Damascus,” the ministry said. “We note that these treacherous attacks on our embassy were committed in conditions of the consolidating ceasefire with an obvious aim of breaking down cessation of hostilities and derailing efforts towards establishing political process.”

“This crime cannot remain unpunished,” the ministry stressed. “Russia’s principled policy of conducting uncompromising struggle against terrorists in Syria will be continued.”
Moscow calls on “international community to duly react to this dangerous terrorist provocation,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed. “We categorically demand the United Nations Security Council resolutions be implemented, supplying of terrorists with weapons and finance be stopped. Once again, we urge to consolidate efforts to exterminate the dangerous seat of terrorism personified by Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and their accomplices in Syria and in the region in whole.”

    • Why thumbing down? Iron Dome really works GREAT! Look at it!

Each interceptor is less expensive than last Igla while the range is nothing common to a ManPADS : 70km. Nonetheless the embassy would be protected from shelling but all the area around Damascus!
Nevertheless, I don’t really understand how they think in the country which build this : they really must be pacifists! Iron Dome intercepts anything which risks to fall on inhabited areas (useless to spend money if the shell will fall where nobody’s at risk) but it also detects from where the rocket or shell has been shot from.
If I was them, I’d erase a 100m radius area around the launching point on any incoming shell or rocket and I don’t give a fuck if there are human shields. If they complaint about these, I’d double the retaliation radius. They’re too cool : they’ve been attacked many time, sure, they defeated the aggressor but accepted ceasefire every time. I may have had accepted twice, but on the 3rd, I’d have terminated the aggressor once and for good! If someone attacks you and goes ass-kicked twice then does it a 3rd time, he’s obsessed into destroying you and will never stop. One day he may succeed. Better annihilate such foe definitively. Gosh, they live it every day for decades! We wouldn’t wait a week until sending the Foreign Legion to liquidate those who shoot at our people. The mofos who did the Charlie Hebdo attack had 75,000 cops after them, those from the Paris attacks, 125,000 cops were after them… No survivors except the one Belgians caught alive, pfff, just shot his leg, idiots!
