BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), alongside Hezbollah and the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi), resumed their offensive in the eastern countryside of Palmyra, Monday, striking the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions near the key town of Arak.

Backed by Russian MI-24 choppers, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies stormed the Islamic State’s positions around the Mustadirah Mountains located northwest of the Arak Gas Fields.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies managed to capture more points around the Mustadirah Mountains, putting them less than 4km away from Arak’s gates.

The Syrian Arab Army’s High Command is hoping to capture Arak by the end of the week, as they begin to shift their attention to the large town of Sukhnah near the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s provincial border.
