BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 A.M.) – Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia stated during a press conference on Thursday that Iran’s presence in Syria is ‘legitimate’ and ‘undeniable’.
During the press conference on late Thursday, Nebenzia said both Iran and Syria are legal members of the United Nations and that the former is inside Syria at the request of Damascus.
“Nobody can deny the issue whether they like it or not,” he stressed.
Noting that many countries are accused of playing a destabilizing role in the region, Nebenzia recalled that Iran has for long stated that it is open to dialogue with other countries in the region.
“Despite Iran’s readiness for holding talks, other parties have not shown interest in this regard,” he said.
The Russian Ambassador added that the US presence in Syria is illegitimate.
