BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force unleashed a flurry of airstrikes over the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Tuesday, targeting the Islamic State’s defenses around the provincial capital and Jabal Thardeh.
Russian fighter jets took off from the Qamishli Military Airport on Tuesday, heading south towards the Deir Ezzor Governorate, where they conducted more than 40 airstrikes over Jabal Thardeh, Al-Rashidiyah, Al-Jubeileh, Maysaloun, Jirayah and Saqr Island.
With the Islamic State pinned down around Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army took the offensive against the terrorist group, attacking their positions around the cemetery and Panorama area.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army was able to seize several points in the cemetery, while also securing the Panorama Farms that were once contested by the Islamic State forces.
The Syrian Arab Army is still on the attack near the cemetery, as they look to lift the two week long siege imposed by the Islamic State on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
