The Russian Air Force played a critical role in the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) advance on Sunday, as they destroyed several jihadist sites in order to clear a path for the government forces at the Bani Zaid District of Aleppo City.

A security source in Aleppo City told Al-Masdar News on Sunday that the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division captured the Barhou Al-Saleh School inside the Bani Zaid District after a violent battle with the jihadist rebels of Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

The school was used by the jihadist rebels as a command-and-control center before it was captured by the Syrian Armed Forces on Sunday morning.

In addition to their advance inside the Bani Zaid District, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division launched another attack at the Al-Layramoun District’s Industrial Zone.

No gains have been reported from the Industrial Zone as of yet; however, the assault has also just started.

Air superiority + serious tactical air support = blitzkrieg. Thus, the conflict stalled a lot due to the lack of CAS/TAS (close/tactical air support). Things seem to get a little better since SyAAF Su-24 and Mig-29 seem to be back at job (as they’ve been overused, they needed serious repairs/overhowling). Strike aircrafts can certainly do both TAS and CAS jobs but you must have them in great numbers and it is very costly. Choppers are less costly than jets, better fitted for CAS but don’t stay for long in the air so, as jets, you must have numbers of them… Read more »
