BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:20 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force did not waste much time to respond to the jihadists that attempted to attack the Hmeimim Airbase on Wednesday.
Russian jets quickly took off from the Hmeimim Airbase shortly after the attack and made their way to the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate. The Russian jets then unloaded a heavy barrage of airstrikes over the jihadist stronghold of Kabani near the Idlib axis.
According to a military source in the Kurdish Mountain (Jabal Al-Akrad) region, the Russian Air Force repeatedly struck the jihadist positions, causing several powerful explosions that could be heard throughout the area.
At the same time, the Syrian Arab Army let loose a powerful attack of their own, hitting a number of points in and around Kabani.
The town of Kabani has long been under the control of the jihadist rebels; it is considered Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s main stronghold in Latakia since they lost the town of Salma.
