BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 P.M.) – The Russian Aerospace Forces will be receiving their first mass order of the Sukhoi Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet in 2019, the Deputy CEO of the Sukhoi Aircraft Company Alexander Pekarsh said in a statement on Tuesday.

“If we speak about the Su-57 program, we are today at the stage of manufacturing the first serial planes,” Pekarsh began.

“In 2018, we completed the manufacture and the delivery of a batch of prototype planes that are now undergoing trials. Under the existing contract with the Defense Ministry, we have two planes in the production process, with the timeframe for the delivery of the first aircraft in 2019 and the second plane in 2020,” he continued.

“I am confident that we will cope with the task and the first serial-produced plane will be delivered this year,” he would add.

The Su-57’s first combat runs were conducted in Syria against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in the eastern and northern parts of the country.

From what I could gather from Russia, they plan to order 10 more in 2019, which’d make 12 serialised aircraft. Serious cost over-runs and under-performance while being not so stealth have made India pulling out from the program in April 2018.

Since Russia is now alone at funding it with no exports in the pipeline, it makes Su-57 even more expensive. Remember how the Yanks have cut F-22 orders and they have the #1 economy on Earth…
