BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:40 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force played an important role in repelling the jihadist advance in the provincial capital of Dara’a on Saturday, Al-Masdar field correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh reported last night.

Russian jets carried out more than 50 airstrikes inside the Dara’a Al-Balad and Al-Manishiyah districts, forcing the jihadist rebels to halt their advance due to the heavy bombardment.

Prior to the Russian airstrikes, the jihadist rebels had seized upwards of 70 percent of the Al-Manishiyah District, leaving only the northern axis left to capture before the airstrikes began.

A massive convoy of reinforcements arrived in Dara’a late on Saturday to help drive back the jihadist rebels; however, the counter-assault by the Syrian Arab Army has yet to begin.
