Overnight, Russian bomber jets pounded Islamist rebel positions at the town of Khan Touman and the farm area south of the Al-Rashideen neighbourhood; these sites are located southwest of Aleppo city.
For the first time in 2016, five Russian warplanes conducted the air raid simultaneously which in turn rendered insurgent anti-aircraft weaponry completely useless.
Russian pilots maneuvered through the airspace of Aleppo in a squadron of four Sukhoj Su-24 bomber jets accompanied by one Sukhoj Su-35 fighter jet for protection.
At least 8 airstrikes were carried out in total; however, the destruction and insurgent death toll from the air raid are unknown due to the darkness of night.
Khan Touman was seized by Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar ash-Sham three days ago as Islamist insurgents slaughtered 17 government troops and 13 Iranian paramilitary fighters during the capture of the town.
To avenge their fallen comrades and regain the initiate in southern Aleppo, the SAA has clashed sporadically with insurgents on the outskirts of Khan Touman in the past few days.
Two days ago, airstrikes also struck the town as can be viewed below:
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has announced it will conduct an air parade show in Latakia tomorrow in show of support for the Syrian Government.
