BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) – For the first time in several days, the Russian Air Force has launched airstrikes over Syria’s southern desert region, a military source told Al-Masdar News last night.
According to the military source, the Russian Air Force launched dozens of airstrikes over the Al-Safa region, hitting a number of Islamic State posts and trenches in the Qasr Sheikh Hussein and Al-Habariyah areas.
The Russian Air Force reportedly paved the way for the Syrian Arab Army to score a major advance in the Al-Safa region, despite facing heavy resistance from the Islamic State terrorists at the top of the mountain.
With the Idlib operation no longer on the table, the Russian Air Force can now concentrate on defeating the last remnants of the Islamic State in eastern and southern Syria.
ISIS still maintains two large pockets in the Deir Ezzor and Homs provinces of eastern Syria and another one in the Al-Sweida Governorate.
