DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:55 P.M.) – Russian warplanes dominated the skies over the countryside of Latakia and Idlib, targeting jihadists on the vicinity of the Turkish border.
Russian airstrikes in the region, especially at the Jisr Al-Shugour area, were described as “non-stop” and the “deadliest this year” by Al-Masdar war correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh.
Based on information leaked by local informants paid by Moscow, the Russian Air Force conducted sorties over suspected rebel artillery positions that have persistently targeted the government-held town of Qardaha with missiles over the past week.
Earlier today, Ahrar Al-Sham claimed to have shot down a Russian helicopter with a 37mm anti-aircraft gun near Salma in rural Latakia. According to a military source, the chopper was hit but the endangered Russian pilots managed to return safely to Khmeimim Airbase.
