The Russian Air Force has recently turned its attention to the Syrian capital of Damascus, where several militants from the Islamist rebel groups of “Jaysh Al-Islam” (Army of Islam), Faylaq Al-Rahman (Al-Rahman Corps), and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) are operating on the outskirts of this historical city.
In coordination with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Russian Air Force has intensified their assault over the East Ghouta (collection of farms) region of Damascus, striking Jaysh Al-Islam and Jabhat Al-Nusra militants several times at the Marj Al-Sultan Airbase and the dilapidated city of Jobar.
With the Islamist rebels on the run, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard has taken advantage of this, launching several attacks inside the contested cities of Jobar, Harasta, and Douma.
Yesterday, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces and the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – took full control of the Military Security Branch building, the Harasta Construction Site, and the northern hills overlooking Dhahiyat Al-Assad.
On Wednesday, the Syrian Armed Forces quickly advanced through the Harasta Industrial Area, where they were confronted by a large contingent from Jaysh Al-Islam; this is currently the most intense battle taking place in the East Ghouta, as the Syrian Army is determined to reclaim their lost territory to the Islamist rebels during the latter’s September offensive.
