BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force unleashed a series of powerful airstrikes over the Palmyra countryside on Friday, hitting several Islamic State targets along this vast desert front in the Homs Governorate.
Russian jets began Friday’s aerial campaign by targeting the Islamic State’s positions in the gas rich towns of ‘Arak and Sukhanah, destroying a number of supply trucks destined for the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
Following the airstrikes over the towns of ‘Arak and Sukhanah, the Russian Air Force attacked an Islamic State gathering point in Jabal Sha’er; this aerial assault resulted in the death of a number of terrorist combatants.
The Russian Air Force would continue to hit Islamic State targets on Friday afternoon, striking a number of mountaintops located north of Palmyra; these airstrikes are still ongoing.
While the Russians attack ISIS from above, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah are attempting to liberate territory near the T-4 Military Airport that is under the terrorist group’s control.
So far, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to push further east of the T-4 Pumping Station, capturing a number of hilltops near Al-Bayarat.
