BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:35 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force has played a crucial role in the battle for central and eastern Syria, thanks in large-part to their relentless airstrikes on the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions.
With the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) closing-in on the town of ‘Uqayribat, Thursday, the Russian Air Force launched a large-number of airstrikes over the eastern Hama countryside, paving the way for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to take control of this Islamic State stronghold by Saturday.
The Russian Air Force did not stop there; they would keep striking the Islamic State’s positions until the Syrian Arab Army successfully liberated most of the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway, clearing a path to the provincial capital.
Video footage from one of the Russian Air Force’s attacks this past week was released by the Syrian Free News channel on YouTube, Sunday; it shows an airstrike that destroyed an Islamic State ammunition hub in the eastern countryside of Hama:
Since the Syrian Army launched their offensive in central Syria, the Russian Air Force has increased their airstrikes over the Syrian Desert by nearly 300%, a military source told Al-Masdar on Sunday.
