Starting next summer, Russia and Israel will conduct their very first joint military exercise over the Mediterranean, according to Israeli website DEBKAfile.

This was agreed upon during a meeting in Moscow on July 7 between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Russia will use its naval port in Tartous and the Hmeimim Airbase in Latakia to coordinate the exercise with Israel, which will use its military facilities in Asdood and Haifa.

Russian companies have also been given permits to build improvements on two gas field in Israel while Putin has promised to protect the Jewish state’s energy interests in the region.

Long-term, the agreement with Russia will help Israel become less dependent on the United States, the main ally of Israel since its inception.

However, the move will likely anger Damascus which remains at a state of war with Israel following its annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights in 1981.

Israel and Syria went to war in 1948, 1967 and 1973; the two countries have never signed a peace treaty.

Right or wrong that is very interesting. I don’t like it, but I’m willing to give it some time. I will just pick the 3 most possible scenario’s. First. Pure money. Russia could almost fully avoid the Russian sanctions trough Israel. Israel would probably want some military security in return since Russia is allied to Israels biggest enemy’s in the Middle east. In any way. Not to forget that there are a lot of ethnic Jewish Russians in Israel, and Russia wants them back, with there wallets. It would financially profit both country’s. Second. Cold war with the US. Everyone… Read more »

Never trust DEBKA . The war, Russia is fighting in Syria agains ISIS, is a war against Israel and it’s master Khazarian Mafia. ISIS is Israeli /American creation. As to some agreements with gas filds- it’s true, but still NOT what Isrehelli DEBKA clames to be. Go to hell Israel and your joint military exercise .
So, please, do not confuse your readers by DEBKA lies .

In fact, ISIS is not an Israeli or even US creation, but the results od neo-cons stupidity, the day they decided to fire all the ba’athists and militaries in Iraq… You were even seing al-Douri personnal militia fighting together with IS… I doubt that al-Douri being an US or israeli proxy… In fact, he may even be the real IS leader, even if now he criticizes them : the IS blitzkrieg 2 years ago was clearly planed by high ranking militaries…

Putin needs to secure world if Clinton wins and Netanyahu is scared if Trump (Or Sanders) win with possible “catastrophic” peace in the Middle East as a result?

Netanyahu is also totally dependent on at least neutral relations with Russia, as Israel has a huge Russian population (one million, 18%) and they will not accept an attack on Russia.

Debkafile is an Israeli website and not Lebanese as the article claims. Looks like a little disinformation trick here.

Don’t believe Debka File. I Remember al Masdar and Debka file once wrote about a Chinese air craft carrier on it’s way to Latakia.

It is a fact that since the 30th of September, the day Russia started intervening in the country, there were no Israeli air strikes in Syria.

They don’t want their F-15 being the 1st to try the S-500 efficiency 😉

As far as I remember, the agreement was “not to interfere with each other’s goals and flights”, not to “cease operations altogether”. And, I’m quite sure our military isn’t going to shoot the Izraeli down, noone needs and wants the consequences. It’s a bit more subtle than the way you put it.

A week or two a go there were news about a top Hezbollah commander being killed by a pinpoint airstrike conducted from the usual low altitude used to bypass SAM radars, and before that, in autumn, there was a bombing right in the heart of Damascus targeting what was said to be a convoy of SAM’s for Hezbolah. So I’m not entirely convinced there have been 0 strikes.

The Hezbollah commander was killed by artillery shells. Some had fantasms it was an Israeli airstrike… You know how some see some jewish plot everywhere especially since “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” was traduced in arab but the thing they don’t know is that it was a total forgery published by anti-semitics… In fact, the only religious plan for world domination is Q’ran…

Russians, traitors to Syria. First they start pulling out, now they sleep with the enemy… I wonder if they were bought out of the conflict.

This is to get a birds eye view of the Russian military at its best. Right before operation Barbarossa, top nazi officials visited Russia to view military operations and other Russian technology. The Russians didn’t show them everything, and surprised them all when Stalin finally came out of his depression.

Or Russia wants a birdeye view on US technologies Israel imports… It’s a win-win case…

Yeah, but Stalin was even not a russian but a georgian and he was even not a commie, nothing else than a mobster who became a dictator : he was known as the Jesse James of the Ural as he attacked trains, he gathered a huge booty and used it to buy everybody : Trotsky should have succeeded Lenin, never Stalin : Lenin hated him.

History repeats because politicians never learn from it. They think they know better, Yes Stalin signed a treaty with Germany and threw Poland under the wheels of the third reich. He was looking for partnership with Nazis just like Russia is seeking partnership with US today.
History lessons forgotten. Putin reminds me of a fanny character from American revolution when it comes to principles and that’s Benjamin Franklin. Sorry guys that’s for people who know the history. Historia est magistra vitae.

No, the USSR did the non aggression pact with Germany because all Western countries refused to make an alliance with the USSR against Germany (the West hoped Germany to attack the USSR).
So, Stalin outmaneuvered the West by doing a pre-emptive non aggression pact. That allowed the USSR to buy 2 years time (USSR got attacked on 1941 instead of 1939; two full years of moving industry back from the future frontline, and two full years of full industrial building of tanks and combat airplanes).
Also, the West had signed their own pacts with Germany before, so don’t blame Stalin.

If this is true , Putin fanatics will either 1) sweep it under the carpet , pretend it’s not happening 2) fully embrace it because after all Putin is 3 ) Deny it to be true , call it outrageous saying that Putin would never do that , then after hearing it straight from Putin act like it’s no big deal and not a concern . 4) call it chess .

This has ro be requested by israel and accepted by Russia with the aim of first their presence is not a threat and second they are not military allies of Syria or Iran against israel or anyone else. Since israel can become a threat that they do not want to face against for anyone else, connected to usa similar to other strong nato allies and even more being nuclear. Neverthless it was a naive decision  since it will be used by israel before during or after wargames making further surgical bombings in Syria against army and hizbollah units to detoriate… Read more »
