Russian Defense Ministry will offer member states of US-led, anti-ISIS coalition the opportunity to help in defusing the mines planted by ISIS in the Syrian city of Palmyra, Russian News Agency (TASS) quoted a military and diplomatic source.
“The Defense Ministry of Russia will soon propose to the US-led coalition to take part in the mine-clearing operation in Palmyra,” the source said.
In this regard, this initiative might be coordinated through the Russian Center for Syrian Ceasefire based in the Syrian coastal airbase of Hmeymim and its US counterpart in Amman, Jordan, or Russian representatives in the operational center for the ceasefire of the International Syria Support Group in Geneva.
Russian Defense Ministry hopes that at least some, if not all, members would positively respond to such proposal.
The Russian airstrikes have been a decisive factor in helping the ground forces of the Syrian Army retake the ancient city of Palmyra from ISIS jihadis.
