BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:21 A.M.) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised his Turkish counterparts role in trying to secure a ceasefire in Syria.

“We outlined further steps in the context of the fight against terrorism in Syria and the political settlement in that country,” Putin said.

He noted that “it was possible to achieve the cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government troops and the armed opposition largely thanks to the vigorous role played by Russia and Turkey,” Putin said.

“We know what role was played by Turkey and highly appreciate it,” the Russian president added.

“The relations with Turkey are steadily returning to a normal, mutually beneficial track,” Putin said.
