S-300

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:25 P.M.) – Russian military experts have escorted the S-300 air defense missile system recently delivered to Syria in order to train Syrian officers, a Russian military source said.

The same source added that most of the Syrian officers currently training on operating the advanced S-300 missile system have had a similar training course outside Saint Petersburg in 2011 as per an agreement between the two countries the year before.

The training course is expected to be concluded by the end of this year where the Syrian officers shall conduct live fire drills to test capabilities.

In 2010, Syrian and Russia has concluded a deal on supplying the Syrian Army with S-300 missile system, which was later suspended.

However, Russia decided to supply its Syrian ally with the most advanced version of S-300 missiles after Israel was held responsible for shooting down a Russian IL-20 plane on September18.

Russia has donated to Syria three battalion sets of S-300PM missile systems of eight launchers each.

These are not numerous. And ImageSat Intl’ is a private company. Nothing related to Israeli spy-sats.
