BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 A.M.) – Russia is planning to honor the fifteen servicemen that were killed in the IL-20’s crash off the coast of western Syria on Monday, September 17th.
“Fifteen Russian servicemen who were killed on September 17 in the crash of the Il-20 of the Russian Aerospace Force will be posthumously awarded Orders of Courage by the command for their devotion, courage and bravery evinced while performing combat tasks in the Syrian Arab Republic,” the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday.
“The Russian Defense Ministry is providing all the necessary support and help to the bereaved families,” they added.
Earlier this week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they found Israel responsible for the downing of the IL-20 reconnaissance plane off the coast of Latakia.
In response to the downing of the IL-20, the Russian Ministry of Defense also announced that they would be supplying Syria with the S-300 air defense system.
The S-300 will be delivered to Syria in the next two weeks, they added.
