BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – The Russian Federation will begin their delivery of the S-400 missile defense system to Turkey in 2019, the Interfax News Agency reported today, citing the arms exporter Rosoboronexport as saying.
Turkey and Russia agreed earlier this year to begin the delivery of the S-400 systems in the near future; however, a date was not set.
The U.S. has warned Turkey about acquiring the Russian-manufactured S-400 missile defense system because of their sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The Trump administration has vowed to block the delivery of the F-35 fighter jets to Turkey if they were to go through with this acquisition.
In response, Turkey has refused to abandon the acquisition of S-400 system, adding that their nation’s security is a top priority.
