BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) – The Russian Navy is shipping a large number of tanks and armored vehicles to the Syrian military, as they prepare to launch new operation in Syria’s northwestern region.

According to Yoruk Isik of the Bosphorus Observer, the Russian heavy landing ship Project 1171 BSF Tapir (NATO:Alligator) class LST Nikolay Filchenkov 152 was photographed traveling through the Bosphorus Strait towards the Mediterranean Sea.

The Russian ships were reportedly en route to the Syrian port-city of Tartous.

Due to the capacity of there ships, the Russian Navy often transports armored vehicles in large quantities to Syria.

In particular, these ships possess the ability to ship as many as 20 tanks or 40 AFV’s or 1,000 tons of equipment.
