Sergei Naryshkin, a speaker in the Russian lower house of parliament, said on Monday that Russia is interested in resuming its relations with Egypt in the tourist and civil aviation industry.
These relations halted after a Russian airplane was bombed over the Sinai peninsula on October 31. The explosion killed all 224 people on board. Egypt was a popular holiday destination for Russians. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack and reported it as retaliation for Russia’s involvement in Syria.
Discussions between Russia and Egypt will commence during his visit to Egypt next week.
“But this will be possible only in case the safety of our citizens is fully guaranteed,” Interfax quoted him as saying.
