BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 A.M.) – Russia has offered Iraq their S-400 air defense system to protect their airspace, RIA Novosti reported this week, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to the report, the Iraqi military may purchase the Russian S-400 system after it was offered to them to “ensure the country’s sovereignty and reliable protection of airspace.”

“Iraq is a partner of Russia in the field of military-technical cooperation, and the Russian Federation can supply the necessary funds to ensure the sovereignty of the country and reliable protection of airspace, including the supply of S-400 missiles and other components of the air defense system, such as Buk-M3, Tor -M2 “and so on,” a member of the Public Council for the Russian Ministry of Defense said, as quoted by Avia.Pro.

Experts reportedly drew attention to the fact that a few months ago, Iraq was seriously mulling the possibility of acquiring the Russian air defense system; however, they reportedly backed off after pressure from the U.S.

If Iraq were to acquire the S-400 system, however, they would be the second country in the Middle East to have this air defense equipment in their arsenal.

The S400 are much more a need for IRAN, than for Irak.

Iran may or may not need S-400. They have a pretty good AA system of their own.The Iranians claim their Bavar-373 (based on the S-300) is almost as good as the S-400. The US was surprised that their domestically made system took down their Global Hawk. The real defensive power may turn out to be their EW. They have Russian EW systems already, as well as their own. Those cruise missiles that didn’t make landfall in Syria didn’t just get lost.

Hopefully the persians finally understand they need the bomb, that they are dealing with psychopaths, one of them Netanyahu said before the invasion of iraq “if you take out sadam, i quarantee you that it will have enorme positieve reverberations on the region”

The only psychos are the ayatoilets. Thanks to them, Persia will get the bomb, likely this one :

Since I think the GBU-57 MOP might not be enough to deal with their underground bases, B61 Mod.12 aka ‘the nuclear bunker-buster’ is likely to be used to achieve the job and remember everyone

The Iraqis would be very stupid. The Russian S300 is not protecting Syria and they leaked the codes of the S300 they sold to Iran. It would be terrible to be under invasion only to find that the equipment you paid so much for is useless, because it was sold to you by snakes.

Why would they take risks when stand-off weapons allow them to strike from their own airspace? Syria has never respected the Geneva convention when capturing Israeli militaries : all POW were tortured to death. Just think that the Spice 250 gliding bomb launched from Israeli territory ranges further than Damascus… The ONLY F-16 SyADF ever managed to shoot down was flying over Israel, and it’s due to over confident pilots who switched their RWR and ECM as they felt secure. It will soon be the same for India, thanks to Rafale : Indians won’t take risks at bombing Paki-backed terrorists… Read more »

Might need a fact check there.

1. The Russians are selling the S400, not S300, to Iraq. The one America doesn’t want Turkey to start using.
2. The Russians sold the Syrian air defence codes to Israel, not Iran. Then Iran hacked the systems on behalf of the Syrian Government to change them so that Israel could no longer hamper them.

What a load of BS : Be it S-300 or S-400, even if you get the mighty Nebo-M radar, the battery sees NOTHING under 300m altitude at only 40km, thanks to Earth’s curvature… It takes less than a minute for AGM-88 HARM to do such a flight and it’s too fast for Pantsir, BTW, the time when putting your radar off to put you out of HARM’s way is over : electro-optics and shape recognition have been added to the seeker. You don’t even get why the Yanks didn’t want Turkey to buy S-400 from Russia while they didn’t opposed… Read more »

Just like your pathetic Dome missiles has a high failure rate….even primitive Hamas rockets can get through Israeli defense system.
The Russians use layered defense systems with an array of different radars….with different missiles with different ranges.
The Syrians shot down the majority of US pathetically slow Cruise missiles directed at Syria after fake Douma event…..as well as knocking out most of Israeli missiles fired by their aircraft.
