Weapons captured from Nazi Germany’s Wehrmacht during World War II will be melted and utilized to build Russian Armed Forced Main Cathedral. Video released on January 25 by the Russian Defence Ministry shows a warehouse in Vladimir Region with crates full of the WWII guns.
The weapons include MG-42 machine guns and Walter and Parabellum pistols among other firearms, which will be used to build the steps and front porch of the main cathedral.
The constructors reportedly will use only weapons which have no historical or military value. Before the pistols and machine guns are melted, they will be made inoperable for firing.
The cathedral is planned to be completed by 2020, in time to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
