Moscow insists that the United States should fulfill its pledge to fully withdraw from Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Monday.

“We insist that the United States should fulfill its pledge and fully withdraw from Syria,” he said.

On December 19, 2018, US President Donald Trump ordered a full withdrawal of US troops from Syria, claiming that the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) had been defeated.

About 2,000 US troops are currently deployed to Syria. According to US officials, the pullout will take 60 to 100 days.

There is no earthly reason for a “withdrawal” to take more than a couple of days.

Russia doesn’t want Turkey to invade Northern Syria. What they want is for the US to leave so that it puts pressure on the SDF to negotiate so that the Syrian Army can go back into Northern Syria without a fight. This would also allow the Syrians access to the important oil fields in east DEZ. A deal is in the works if the US would just get out of the way. As long as the US is in Northern Syria the SDF doesnt have a reason to make the deal happen nor would the US let it.

So Russia want Turkey to invade northern Syria?
I call it backstabbing : the only thing preventing an invasion is the presence of US troops! Remembering how Russians withdrew from Afrin where they were embedded with YPG, thus letting Erdogan invade the canton, is more than enough to not listening to them : Erdogan will order more S-400, maybe even Su-57 and MiG-35, then Putin will let him do what he pleases, despite the same Erdogan backs Ukraine and also jihadis in many CSTO countries.

@Daeshbags-Sux, the Russians withdrew from Afrin because YPG declined the offer of Syrian government protection that was coupled with the condition to join a Syrian Federation with more than words.

p.s. Coming from a Federation I can tell You that the central government of such a state has undeniable prerogatives which must not be denied by a single part of it. And any rule or law that is not agreed to be issued by the local province can be changed by the Federation Central. And there must be only one army commanded by the Federal government in case of a war.

p.s. Putin has no need to outsell Syria. Nobody but Russia will give technical details of an anti rocket system. Turkey’s energy supply relies on Russian gas….

Thus the Israel gas pipeline through Syria and the need for the Kurds again. It’s why Israel has been backing them for decades. They get land and oil handed to them that in turn goes to Israel for export
