BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:45 P.M.) – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova spoke about Syria and the Skripal case on the sidelines of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday.

Talking about the Russian Il-20 jet downed by the Syrian Air Defence Forces, Zakharova said “the tragedy which occurred on September 17 will require further investigation and, certainly, explanations from the Israel.”

“I suppose that the Israeli pilots, whose actions posed a threat and subsequently resulted in the downing of the Russian aircraft, our experts’ information confirms this, were behaving in an unprofessional manner at the very least,” she added.

Zakharova also spoke about the deal reached between the Russian and Turkish presidents over the creation of a demilitarised zone in Idlib.

She said she hoped that it would “have a sobering effect on the instigators who, by staging a chemical attack there, are seeking to justify yet another hostile missile strike by the so-called US-led coalition on Syria.”

El gobierno Ruso no está mostrando firmeza, para que no le importa la vida de sus militares.

The explanation is clear : since VKS (RuAF) doesn’t communicates IFF (indicator friend of foe) with Syrian air-defenses, SyADF noticing an incoming attack started shooting at anything in their radars. With the Russian aircraft not recognised as friend due to no shared IFF, the tragedy was unavoidable… I’m not even sure IDF F-16 “hid” behind the Il-20 : they used GBU-39 gliding bomb which ranges 100-110km, Il-20 was only 35km from the coast and targets were within 5-10km from the coast. With air defences around, you stay as far as possible, ESPECIALLY when there are hypersonic missiles like S-200 :… Read more »
