BEIRUT, LÍBANO (5:00 p.m.) – El Ministerio de Defensa ruso dijo que 276 policías militares rusos y 33 unidades de equipo militar serán transferidos a Siria dentro de una semana mientras se preparan para proteger la frontera bajo el nuevo acuerdo de Sochi.

El ministro de Defensa ruso, Sergei Shoigu, dijo después de los acuerdos con Turquía en Sochi que la actual policía militar rusa tendrá suficientes tropas para patrullar el área designada en Siria, pero se necesitará equipo adicional en el futuro.

“No hay combates reales ahora en Siria”, dijo el ministerio de defensa.

El memorándum ruso-turco firmado el martes pasado indica que dentro de 150 horas, las fuerzas de autodefensa kurdas serán trasladadas a 30 kilómetros de la frontera con Turquía al oeste y al este desde el área de la Operación Primavera de la Paz.

La policía militar rusa participa en la retirada kurda del miércoles.

Posteriormente, patrullas conjuntas de territorio del ejército ruso y turco comenzarán a 10 kilómetros de la frontera turco-siria, con la excepción de la ciudad de Qamishli en el noreste de Siria.
