BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:40 P.M.) – Rumors have begun to surface from the Barada Valley that the jihadist rebels have finally surrendered this area in western Damascus.
Al-Masdar was told from several local activists in Damascus that the jihadist rebels agreed to terms of surrender in Wadi Barada after intense negotiations these past few hours with a reconciliation committee designated by the government.
Initial reports indicate the rebels will allow a U.N. aid convoy to enter the area, while the Syrian Arab Army provides transportation from Wadi Barada to the Idlib Governorate for the remaining militants.
No confirmation from the Syrian military has been received as of yet, so this is still just speculation.
In the past, the rebels have agreed to similar deals in Wadi Barada, only to renege when the time came for them to leave.
