BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 A.M.) – Besieged rebel forces in Al-Qabun and Barzeh are preparing their defenses amid a looming Syrian Arab Army (SAA) assault following two weeks of heavy government bombardment on the residential area.

With the SAA’s 4th Mechanized Division on standby overnight, a new batch of Republican Guards arrived on Thursday evening to join the upcoming urban battle.

According to Al-Masdar News field correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, the newly arrived SAA unit is trained specifically for assault operations and is highly experienced in capturing building blocks from battles elsewhere in Damascus.

If local Islamist commander continue to refuse an evacuation deal that would have rebel militants leave for Idlib, the SAA’s 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division and 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard will storm Barzeh and Al-Qabun in the days to come.
