The Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” have set their sights on the imperative hilltop of Tal Qareen after losing it to the Syrian Arab Army’s 90th Brigade of the 9th Armored Division in September 2015.
For the last 72 hours, the Southern Front Brigades have charged the hilltop and attempted to repeatedly break-through the Syrian Arab Army’s front-line defenses at the western perimeter of Tal Qareen; however, they have been repelled each time they approach the western slope.
On Friday morning, the Free Syrian Army tried for Tal Qareen once again, striking the hilltop’s western flank with a barrage of powerful mortar shells and rockets in order to weaken the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses before storming their positions.
Unfortunately for the Free Syrian Army, once they charged the hilltop, they found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer force of the 90th Brigade’s armory and fortifications.
Video footage from this morning’s battle showed the rebel units attempting to advance in the open field, only to be shot down by the Syrian Arab Army’s machine guns and rockets.
Unable to make any significant progress, the Free Syrian Army officially withdrew from the perimeter after sustaining a significant number of casualties over the course of this 72 hour battle in the Golan Heights of the Al-Quneitra Governorate.
