The predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) – backed by Jaysh Al-Thuwwar of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – captured several sites from the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Shamiyah inside the provincial capital of the Aleppo Governorate recently.
However, the Kurdish forces and their allies may have pushed too far after capturing the Bani Zayd Youth Housing Complex in Aleppo City’s northern sector; this was apparent earlier this morning when the Islamist rebels launched a counter-assault to recapture the sites they lost to the U.S. backed groups.
According to several reports from the Aleppo Governorate, the Islamist rebels (specifically Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham) have reentered the Bani Zayd Youth Housing Complex after losing this site just 48 hours ago.
In addition to reentering the Bani Zayd Youth Housing Complex, the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra, Jabhat Al-Shamiyah, and the Free Syrian Army are currently pushing east of the Al-Hillak District, where they hope to clear its axis with Sheikh Maqsoud.
While the Islamist forces concentrate on Aleppo City, the Kurdish forces have shifted their attention to Mar’e, where they are currently combating Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham for control of its southern perimeter.
