On Tuesday night, a large contingent from Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) launched a surprise attack on the National Defense Forces (NDF) defensive barriers at the reconciled city of Al-Mo’adimiyah in the Rif Dimashq Governorate; this resulted in a series of intense firefights that concluded with the armed assailants fleeing the scene of the attack before they could be apprehended by Syrian security forces.
The situation inside the reconciled city of Al-Mo’adimiyah has become very tense, as the rebel forces (mainly Jaysh Al-Islam) continue to violate the terms of the ceasefire agreement by smuggling weapons and ammunition, despite numerous attempts by the reconciliation committees to deter violence and reinforce the need for vocal engagement.
As of Tuesday, the city of Al-Mo’adimiyah becomes the latest victim of the breached reconciliation agreement in the Rif Dimashq Governorate – the previous cities that experienced this violation were Harasta, Barzeh, and Yalda.
The leader of Jaysh Al-Islam – Zahran Alloush – has grown relatively unpopular in the rebel-stronghold of Douma, due to his strict policies and corruption that have plagued the large city in the East Ghouta of the Rif Dimashq Gvernorate.
Infuriated and unhappy with their living conditions, throngs of civilians took to the streets of Douma, where they began demonstrating against Zahran Alloush and his fighters with chants that illuminated the issues inside this rebel stronghold.
For many civilians inside of Douma, they have been unable to evade the Jaysh Al-Islam checkpoints at the outskirts of the city; this has forced many of the city’s residents to find alternative methods to reach the Syrian Arab Army’s checkpoints near the Al-Wafadeen Refugee Camp.
