At least 6 people were killed, other injured as Islamist rebels targeted residential areas outside Damascus with a barrage of mortar shells.
On Sunday morning, more than 30 mortar shells, fired from the nearby rebel-held Qaboun and Douma neighborhoods, hit the Assad Suburb and the proximity of Tishreen Military Hospital.
The assault spread panic in the targeted areas, forcing the schools to evacuate schoolchildren and cancel glasses for the rest of the day.
Intense clashes are currently taking place in the nearby neighborhoods of Qaboun and Barzeh as the government forces have launched a wide-scale military operation to re-take the two insurgent-controlled districts.
Meanwhile, the Syrian fighter jets conducted more than 60 airstrikes on rebel forces positions located in different areas inside the Western Ghouta.
Rebels’ self-made missilea also reached the downtown of the capital. Local activists reported two rockets fell on the Al-Maliki neighborhood and near the Faculty of Engineering in Al Baramekah.
