At least 10 mortar shells and homegrown missiles fired from rebel-held areas in northeastern Damascus hit several residential areas in the Syrian capital, causing substantial material damage.

The SyAAF responded to the attacks with more than 20 airstrikes that targeted rebel rocket launchers and staging points in Douma, Kaft Batna, Zamlka and Arbeen in the Eastern Ghouta region.

The attack comes as the government forces continue to oust the Islamist fighters from more territories in the Eastern Ghouta region; most recently Al-Reyhan town.

Local activists reported that two of the shells fired landed near the Russian Embassy. No casualties reported. the rockets also hit the residential areas of Assad Suburb, Mazzeh, Al-Malki, in addition to one mortar shell that landed near the Umayyad Mosque in the old city.
