BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:25 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham launched a large-scale offensive inside the Dara’a Governorate on Sunday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the Al-Manishiyah District of the provincial capital.

This offensive started off promising for the jihadist rebels, as they seized several sites inside of the Al-Manishiyah  District, including the great mosque and Al-Najjar Buildings.

However, since Monday, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has been unable to maintain much of their territorial gains inside Al-Manishiyah, forcing them to withdraw from several points in order to avoid anymore casualties at the hands of the Syrian Arab Army and Hezbollah.

While there is no way to confirm the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s casualties, Hezbollah and Syrian Arab Army officials estimate the total number of dead for the jihadist rebels is somewhere around 200+, making this assault a very costly endeavor for only a half dozen street blocks.

Litte gain by those terrorists remain a gain and tbh it shouldn’t have happened. Anyhow, I am sure that the SAA will take back those lost blocks but it will take some time.

On a side note, thanks Leith for sharing this military map which summarizes well the situation.

Yes. A nobrainer battle like Verdun. Very costly for the attacker if he does not have the right gear or plan. Nusra drew the local SF and the civilians into fights once more. IMHO to abandon them again. AFAIR they did so before. p.s. Likely the SAA will now try to split the pocket by reaching the border of Jordan. It will give the inner, shorter ways.

Lol, those rebels know less about economy principals. Should be higher gain less cost but they turn it upside down to be higher cost less gain. What a genious. Lol

Actually, unless you have soldiers well trained for urban warfare, your troop’s gonna get serious losses… Hezbo learnt urban warfare the hard way getting their butts kicked by Tsahal… Do you know that once, Ariel Sharon declared “we created Hezbollah”? Why? well, UNIFIL blocked them and the Maronites blocked them to take care Aratfat and his croonies in PLO. Funny fact, in the end, itwas SAA+Hezbo who expelled PLO from Lebanon. Note PLO tried to overthrow Lebanese govt. They already tried to overthrow Jordan before and even kill King Hussein. It was Aratfat’s uncle who was the previous ‘Palestinian’ leader… Read more »
