The conglomerate of Islamist militias in northern Syria that make-up “Jabhat Al-Shamiyah” (Levant Front) were the victim of an Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) suicide truck bombing in the northern Aleppo city of Mare’ on Tuesday evening.
Levant Front media activists reported that a truck operated by an ISIS member was driven into the Jabhat Al-Shamiyah headquarters at the Hoor Kaas School, resulting in the destruction of the front entrance of the building and the western corridor.
Over 30 Jabhat Al-Shamiyah fighters were killed as a result of the suicide bombing, including two leaders of this group that were identified as Yahya Hafezh and Hazim Saleh.
Also reported among the dead rebel fighters at the Jabhat Al-Shamiyah headquarters was an emir (leader) from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”: Abu Mariah Al-Halabi.
In the Salahiddeen District of Aleppo City, the Syrian Arab Army’s engineering unit destroyed a large tunnel belonging to Jabhat Al-Nusra; this resulted in the death of an estimated 30 militants operating under this district in southern Aleppo.
Fierce firefights were reported between the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Jabhat Al-Nusra at the Old Bath House in the Old City Quarter of Aleppo; this battle is still ongoing, despite claims that Jabhat Al-Nusra captured this area.
